Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014)

Director: Christopher Landon
Starring: Andrew Jacobs, Jorge Diaz, Gabrielle Walsh, Renee Victor, Noemi Gonzalez, David Saucedo, Gloria Sandoval, Richard Cabral, Carlos Pratts

The paranormal events begin haunting a Californian Latino community when the elderly neighbour from downstairs, who they believe to be a witch, is murdered by a school friend. After investigating the house, they find mysterious black magic paraphernalia including a book of spells that can open doorways to 'unholy lands'. This ultimately leads to spirits following the group in a host of bizarre and unexplained circumstances.

Unnecessary spin-off of the Paranormal series, written specifically for the Latino market, adds nothing new to the story and surrounds the Paranormal universe with more explanations than we really need. Essentially, all these sequels and spin-offs are adding very small pieces to the puzzle but not answering enough questions; the exact reason viewers stopped tuning in to Lost.

With no genuine scares, a padded-out storyline and a process we've seen all too often, there's nothing much here to get your hopes up. What seems to be happening now in the Paranormal universe is two more completed sequels to finish the story off. I wonder what ghostly scares we'll see in these as the formula is severely running thin.
