Dumb and Dumber To (2014)

Director: Bobby Farrelly, Peter Farrelly
Starring: Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Rob Riggle, Laurie Holden, Rachel Melvin, Steve Tom, Don Lake, Patricia French, Kathleen Turner, Bill Murray, Tembi Locke, Paul Blackthorne, Brady Bluhm

20 years after his relationship with Mary Swanson was over, Llyod Christmas (Carrey) has spent his time catatonic in a mental institution. After best friend Harry Dunne (Daniels) visits to explain he is in bad need of a kidney, Llyod confesses his 20-year prank and the pair set off to find a donor. After visiting Harry's adopted parents, they find a letter from a former girlfriend the duo believe has fathered Harry's daughter.

Direct sequel to the hugely successful Dumb and Dumber, which marked great stardom for the Farrelly brothers and Carrey, does wipe away the awfulness of the Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd disaster. We already know it's not going to be anywhere near as funny as the original and the Farrelly's sense of humour is certainly not in tone with mine, though there are some disgustingly hilarious moments here.

Carrey and Daniels are just as outrageous as before and it's great to see the 'Billy' plotline in reference to the original. Melvin as Penny, Harry's apparent child, also gives a friendly and humorous performance, though, like the original, everyone else is mostly deadpan. It's not going to win too many fans but it's vastly better than anything the Farrelly's have done since the original, save the successful There's Something About Mary and the grand Nick Hornby adaptation Fever Pitch.
